Bengaluru, Sep 29 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Centre has approved the procurement of soybean, green gram and sunflower grown in Karnataka during the 2026-27 kharif season under the Minimum Support Price (MSP) scheme, Union Minister Pralhad Joshi said on Tuesday.
The decision came after Pralhad Joshi, Union Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, urged Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan to allow the procurement of the three crops at MSP to support farmers in the state.
Under the MSP scheme, the Centre has approved the procurement of 1,15,500 metric tonnes of soybean, 13,413 metric tonnes of sunflower and 38,250 metric tonnes of green gram from Karnataka during the 2026-27 kharif season.
The approval is expected to provide support to farmers cultivating these crops and help them secure the MSP for their produce during the current marketing season.
Procurement will cover the quantities approved by the Centre under the Price Support Scheme.
Joshi said he had written to Shivraj Singh Chouhan seeking the procurement of soybean, sunflower and green gram at MSP in the interest of Karnataka’s farmers.
He said the Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister responded positively and approved procurement of the three crops under the MSP scheme.
The Union Minister said the decision reflected the Centre’s continued support for Karnataka’s farming community and would protect farmers from being forced to sell below the support price.
Joshi also thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Shivraj Singh Chouhan for approving the procurement.
He said the Centre remained committed to safeguarding the interests of Karnataka’s farmers and ensuring that they receive fair and remunerative prices for their agricultural produce.
He added that the approval would benefit farmers cultivating soybean, sunflower and green gram across the state during the current kharif season.
The procurement of the three crops at MSP comes as farmers market their kharif produce, providing an assured price mechanism for the quantities approved by the Center.
