Brad Pitt Returns as Cliff Booth in The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth, Netflix Drops Trailer

Brad Pitt is back as one of his most memorable characters, but Cliff Booth is stepping into a very different Hollywood this time. Netflix has unveiled the trailer for The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth, bringing Pitt back as the character he played in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. Set in 1977, nearly a decade after the events of the 2019 film, the new story finds Cliff navigating a darker and more complicated version of the entertainment industry.

Netflix announced the film with the line, “Brad Pitt returns as Cliff Booth, only this time it’s 1977 and it’s a very different Hollywood.” The film is directed by David Fincher from a screenplay by Tarantino, marking an intriguing collaboration between two major filmmakers with very distinct cinematic styles. Pitt also produces the project alongside Ceán Chaffin and others.

The 90-second trailer offers glimpses of a dramatically different Cliff Booth. With longer hair and period Hawaiian shirts, Pitt's character is seen driving at night, hanging around a soda fountain, attending a crowded party and moving through a series of increasingly mysterious situations. There are also glimpses of a man demanding a briefcase of cash, a dirt racetrack at night and Cliff looking battered and exhausted in a back room.

Unlike the version of Cliff audiences met in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, the character is no longer primarily working as Rick Dalton's stunt double. In 1977, he has become something of a Hollywood fixer, taking on jobs involving money, blackmail and the various problems that come with working around the industry's more complicated characters. The trailer also delivers a cheeky update on his former association with Rick Dalton, with a line suggesting that Rick is no longer in the picture because “Rick got too fat.”

The film features an ensemble cast that includes Scott Caan, Carla Gugino, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Peter Weller and Timothy Olyphant, who reprises his role as James Stacy. Leonardo DiCaprio, however, does not return as Rick Dalton, keeping the focus firmly on Cliff and his new adventures. The trailer's shadowy visuals, controlled compositions and period atmosphere also signal Fincher's distinct touch.

For Tarantino, The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth represents a different way of continuing the character's story. He chose not to direct the film, allowing Fincher to take over behind the camera, while Tarantino is also developing his own novel version of the story, The Adventures of Cliff Booth. The novel is scheduled for publication on December 8, offering fans another version of the character's journey.

The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth will first arrive in IMAX for an exclusive two-week theatrical run beginning November 25, 2026, before streaming globally on Netflix from December 23, 2026. With Brad Pitt returning to a fan-favourite role, Fincher directing and Tarantino supplying the screenplay, the film brings together a familiar character and a very different Hollywood for its next chapter.
