New Delhi, Sep 21 (SocialNews.XYZ) Hitting back at AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi for his plea on Monday to political peers touting an alliance before the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, Congress MP Imran Masood said that even after winning 5-7 seats, AIMIM ends up supporting a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government.
Masood remarked that even if Owaisi manages to get 5–7 MLAs elected, they ultimately support a BJP government. “What happened in Bihar? The BJP formed the government, didn’t it?” he asked.
He added that elections cannot be won solely on Muslim votes, nor can Muslims alone ensure victory. According to him, the BJP has broken the myth that elections cannot be won without Muslim votes.
“If we continue to play on those lines, we will be making the BJP victorious. Muslims are the most oppressed community in Uttar Pradesh; they face the most atrocities and violence,” he said.
AIMIM chief’s remarks drew flak from other Congress leaders as well.
Congress spokesperson Surendra Rajput claimed that AIMIM and BJP were in alliance. Reacting to Owaisi’s statement, he said, “We appeal to the media not to spread confusion. There is no talk of an alliance from our side. Owaisi Sahib only talks about Muslims, while the BJP only talks about Hindus. Their alliance is with each other behind the scenes.”
Rajput further clarified that there had been neither any discussion nor any talks of an alliance from the Congress side. “No alliance can be formed by putting a gun to someone’s ear,” he said.
Another Congress leader, Asim Waqr, recalled that when a journalist asked Owaisi a question, he replied, “Yes, after 10 years, they have realised that I am a BJP agent.”
Referring to past incidents, Waqr said, “In 1985, his respected father Salahuddin Owaisi became an MP, and after that, he remained with the Congress. Then the Moradabad incident happened, which his people cite when they say the Congress is oppressive. Then the Bhagalpur incident occurred, which they also cite when saying the Congress is cruel to Muslims. Then the Babri Masjid issue happened… after that, Salahuddin Owaisi had to confess to the Quran.”
He claimed that AIMIM continued to blame Congress and the Samajwadi Party (SP), calling both parties ‘enemies of Muslims’. “They continued to say this for 29 years, and now he is urging with folded hands that we should take them with us, that we should form an alliance,” Waqar retorted.
“If indeed we are enemies of Muslims, then why are you asking to come into an alliance with us? And if at all you want us to join hands, then we are good people,” he concluded.
