ED arrests Kolkata real estate director on money laundering charges

Kolkata, Sep 18 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Friday said its officers arrested Amit Ganguly, Director of Ganguly Home Search Pvt Ltd, on money laundering charges.

According to an ED press statement, Ganguly was arrested on September 15 under Section 19 of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002. The ED produced him before a special PMLA court and remanded him to ED custody for four days.

The agency said its investigation is linked to fraudulent acquisition, control, and transfer of immovable properties belonging to multiple persons and entities. ED noted that the probe was initiated based on multiple FIRs registered by the West Bengal Police concerning scheduled offences under the PMLA. Investigators alleged that Ganguly, in connivance with associates and through various entities, was involved in cheating, forgery, and other fraudulent means leading to unlawful acquisition and transfer of valuable immovable properties.

The investigation further revealed the use of forged and fabricated sale deeds, agreements, powers of attorney, deeds of gift, Board Resolutions, and other documents to assert false rights over properties. Land and municipal records were allegedly manipulated to interfere with the possession and ownership rights of actual owners.

ED claimed that Ganguly acquired development rights over properties by entering into joint ventures with landowners but failed to honour their lawful entitlements, instead fabricating documents to assert control. The proceeds and property rights arising from such activities constitute “proceeds of crime” under the PMLA.

It is learnt that the proceeds of crime identified during investigation include valuable immovable properties and property rights. ED further claimed that Ganguly is named in around 23 FIRs and has duped multiple investors and landowners using this modus operandi.

Earlier, ED had conducted searches on March 28, 2026, at premises belonging to Ganguly, leading to seizure of incriminating documents, digital devices, and other records. Examination of the seized material revealed his alleged influence with local authorities in matters relating to real estate projects and immovable properties.

Further investigation is in progress.
