Egyptian Prez, Saudi crown prince met over ties, regional security

Cairo, Sep 16 (SocialNews.XYZ) Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi met with Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud in Cairo to discuss ties and regional security.

During the talks on Tuesday (local time), the two leaders agreed to advance bilateral cooperation and remove obstacles hindering their increased trade and investment flows, according to an official statement from the Egyptian Presidency.

Sisi expressed Egypt's rejection and condemnation of any attacks or threats that undermine Saudi Arabia's sovereignty, stability, and territorial integrity, the statement read.

He reiterated Egypt's support for the measures taken by the kingdom to safeguard its security, as well as for efforts to reach a comprehensive and sustainable political solution to the crisis in Yemen, it said.

The Saudi crown prince, for his part, praised Egypt's support for regional stability and peace and its solidarity with the Kingdom amid recent geopolitical challenges, it added.

The meeting came amid the escalating cross-border confrontation between Yemen's Houthi group and Saudi Arabia, reports Xinhua news agency.

The Houthi group said Monday that it had launched dozens of ballistic missiles and drones at a major military air base in southwestern Saudi Arabia.

On Thursday, the group captured the strategic port of Mocha, pushed south into the Bab al-Mandab Strait area on Friday, and seized Mayun Island at the heart of the strait, tightening their grip on the vital shipping chokepoint linking the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden.

Meanwhile, earlier on Monday, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud reviewed the latest regional developments during a meeting with Commander of the US Central Command Admiral Brad Cooper in Jeddah.

The two sides also reviewed bilateral relations between Saudi Arabia and the United States, the Saudi Press Agency reported.
