New Delhi, Sep 15 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Delhi Cabinet has approved a proposal to double the monthly incentive for 6,725 ASHA workers from Rs 3,000 to Rs 6,000 and initiated the process for providing safe and affordable hostel accommodation to 10,000 students, an official said on Tuesday.
The Cabinet, led by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, also expressed gratitude towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and Jal Shakti Minister C.R. Paatil for the signing of inter-state MoU on Kishau Multipurpose Dam Project in north India which may augment Delhi's water supply and augment flow in the Yamuna.
The Rs 15,000-crore project, situated on the Tons river along the Himachal Pradesh–Uttarakhand border, will generate 422 MW of hydroelectric power, irrigate 97,000 hectares, and provide 517 million cubic metres of drinking water annually, significantly aiding the rejuvenation of the Yamuna.
The Chief Minister's Office (CMO) on social media platform X said, "Delhi has signed the MoU with five other states. For the national capital, benefits are substantial and long-term. It will strengthen drinking water security, improve availability during lean-flow months, reduce seasonal pressure on supply and support rejuvenation and conservation of Yamuna."
"Delhi will gain a stronger, more reliable water framework for its growing population, while also contributing to irrigation, water conservation and clean energy across North India," it added.
Earlier, the Delhi Cabinet doubled the monthly incentive for the 6,725 ASHA workers. The workers will receive direct financial benefits and the primary healthcare system will be strengthened, the statement said.
The workers play crucial role in providing child vaccination and linking beneficiaries to government's health schemes.
The Delhi government has also initiated the process to provide safe and affordable hostel accommodation for 10,000 students.
"The initiative will cover both girls and boys, with secure campuses and student-friendly facilities that help them focus on their studies and future. Locations are being identified and a dedicated policy is under preparation for time-bound implementation," the CMO said.
The Delhi government's expenditure and finance panel has also approved an expenditure of Rs 266.26 crore on the construction of 500 ultra-modern toilet blocks for tourists. These will be equipped with solar panels, CCTV and mechanical ventilation systems.
In another development, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta attended an event organised on the occasion of Engineers' Day by the Delhi Engineers Association.
In a post on X, the Chief Minister said, "We paid floral tributes to 'Bharat Ratna' Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya ji alongside the State BJP President and Minister of State Harsh Malhotra ji, and saluted the contributions of the country's engineers."
