New Delhi, Sep 14 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) said on Monday that the Chairman of the Delhi Assembly's Public Accounts Committee (PAC) and MLA from Ghonda, Ajay Mahawar, has hinted that he plans to approach Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta to seek an inquiry into the leaking of the details of the panel's proceedings on social media.
The Delhi BJP said in a statement that Mahawar addressed a press conference and demanded that action be taken against those who leaked the proceedings of the PAC, made them public, circulated them on social media, or attempted to give them a political colour.
Mahawar said that the Public Accounts Committee is a highly important parliamentary committee of the Delhi Assembly and functions within its prescribed constitutional and parliamentary framework.
For some time now, the Committee has been continuously examining various matters.
It is noteworthy that after a gap of nearly 17 years following 2008-09, the report of the Public Accounts Committee was tabled in the Legislative Assembly in 2025, Mahawar added.
"In previous years, more than 40 pending matters could not move forward. Those who have consistently spoken about the Lokpal, Lokayukta and accountability failed, during their tenure in government, to ensure the expected action on CAG reports or the regular presentation of Public Accounts Committee reports before the House. Merely making announcements is not sufficient. The responsibility of Assembly committees is to ensure accountability on the basis of facts," he said.
The BJP statement said that Mahawar also pointed to the issue concerning the construction of staff quarters involving around Rs 60 crore also came before the Public Accounts Committee for examination.
"Mahawar said that it is unfortunate that an attempt was made to make matters related to those proceedings public and give them a political colour," the Delhi BJP said in a statement.
"Regarding the inquiry into the construction work at the renovated official residence of the then Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in Civil Lines, also known as "Sheesh Mahal", the Public Accounts Committee is only verifying facts on the points raised by the CAG in its report. In the relevant Paragraph 2.5 of the CAG report, questions have been raised as to why an old rate basis was used by the Public Works Department for determining rates and what was the basis for the applicable rates and cost determination in the construction of residential buildings," the Delhi BJP statement added.
The Committee is also examining how the estimated cost of construction increased and on the basis of which approvals the construction area was increased.
According to the CAG report, the construction area was increased from around 1,397 square metres to 1,905 square metres. This has also raised the question of an additional financial implication of around Rs 18.88 crore.
"Similarly, questions have also been raised regarding the costs of civil works, electrical works, modular kitchens and other items. The CAG has mentioned expenditure of around Rs 45.90 lakh on curtains," the Delhi BJP statement said.
"The Committee wants to ascertain who authorised these additional expenditures, on what basis the costs increased, and where the approval of the competent authority for the same is," the Delhi BJP statement added.
