Bengaluru, Sep 12 (SocialNews.XYZ) Karnataka Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President and MLA B.Y. Vijayendra said on Saturday that the party will undertake a five-day padyatra across all 224 Assembly constituencies in the state from September 15, and party workers and members of the public will meet tahsildars and Deputy Commissioners to protest against the state government's decision to curtail the singing of Vande Mataram.
Speaking to reporters at the state BJP office Jagannath Bhavan, Vijayendra added that the party would submit representations to officials and exert pressure on the state government to withdraw its decision.
"Vande Mataram is not merely a song. It inspired the spirit of the freedom struggle among crores of Indians and instilled a sense of patriotism among the people," he said.
He criticised the state government's decision to permit the singing of only two stanzas of Vande Mataram, while the Centre has decided that all six stanzas should be sung.
"It is unfortunate that the state government and Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar have decided that singing only two stanzas is sufficient. This decision has been taken with an intention to appease minorities," he alleged.
Vijayendra also urged Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar to learn from the Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who, he said, had ensured that all six stanzas of Vande Mataram were sung.
The State BJP President said the padyatra would be held across all 224 Assembly constituencies for five days from September 15.
On the recent Enforcement Directorate (ED) searches linked to Karnataka Public Works Department Minister Satish Jarkiholi, Vijayendra alleged that there was growing discussion within Congress that someone from the party, who had information about Jarkiholi, might have provided information to the ED.
Jarkiholi had himself said that the details of those who complained to the ED should be traced, the State BJP President said, adding that this had raised questions about possible internal rivalry within the Congress.
"Satish Jarkiholi is also an aspirant for the Chief Minister's post. Is there an attempt within the Congress to undermine each other?" Vijayendra asked.
He said the BJP had no role in the ED searches and claimed that discussions were taking place over whether the developments were the result of internal conflict within the Congress and a power struggle for the Chief Minister's post.
"There is no role of the BJP behind the ED raids. There are discussions about whether a conspiracy or a plot is being carried out due to internal differences in the Congress and the fight for the Chief Minister's chair," he added.
Vijayendra also claimed that information could have been provided to the ED because Jarkiholi was perceived as a potential obstacle in the race for the Chief Minister's post.
Opposition Legislative Council Chief Whip N. Ravikumar, BJP state general secretaries N.S. Nandiesha Reddy and Preetham Gowda, Yuva Morcha state president and MLA Dheeraj Muniraju, and former MLA M.D. Lakshminarayana were present at the press conference.
