Parineeti Chopra believes the conversation around motherhood and women’s careers in the entertainment industry is changing for the better. Speaking at the trailer launch of Netflix’s upcoming mystery thriller Shaque: Trust No One in Mumbai, the actor opened up about how becoming a mother has not changed the way filmmakers approach her. For Parineeti, the absence of assumptions about what roles she should be offered after motherhood is itself a sign of how far the industry and its audience have come.
“Yeah, 1,000%,” Parineeti said when asked whether motherhood has stopped being a hindrance in the careers of female actors. The actor revealed that she has not encountered conversations where filmmakers or writers have specifically told her that becoming a mother has changed the kind of roles available to her. “I don’t think I’ve had a single conversation with any filmmaker, director, or writer who has even brought up motherhood to me,” she said, adding that she would hate to stop working simply because she had become a mother.
Parineeti also spoke candidly about the emotional side of the issue. She said that while continuing a career is ultimately a two-way relationship between an actor and the industry, it would be heartbreaking to lose opportunities simply because she had experienced something as beautiful as having a baby. For her, being a mother and being an actor should not be treated as mutually exclusive choices. The fact that such assumptions are increasingly disappearing is something she sees as a positive step.
Interestingly, Parineeti believes much of this change is being driven by audiences themselves. “The audience isn't ‘canceling’ mothers,” she explained, pointing out that the willingness of viewers to embrace women in different phases of their lives gives writers, directors and actors the freedom to create more diverse stories and characters. She stressed that the entertainment business ultimately works through supply and demand, with audiences playing a major role in determining what kind of stories and performers get space on screen.
Her comments came at the trailer launch of Shaque: Trust No One, a series that puts Parineeti at the centre of an emotionally intense mystery. The trailer follows her character as a mother whose newborn daughter is abducted from the Royal Shimla Hospital. Nine years later, she is still searching for her missing child, with her investigation taking her through a tangled world of deceit, paranoia and suspicion, where even those closest to her cannot be trusted.
The trailer launch was attended by the Shaque team, including Anup Soni, Soni Razdan, Jennifer Winget, Tahir Raj Bhasin, Harleen Sethi, Netflix’s Tanya Bami, director Rensil D’Silva and producer Siddharth P. Malhotra. The series is directed by Rensil D’Silva and produced by Siddharth P. Malhotra under Alchemy Films, with Sumeet Vyas also part of the ensemble. Shaque: Trust No One premieres globally on Netflix on September 24, 2026, and for Parineeti, the project arrives at a time when she is not just playing a mother on screen but also speaking openly about why motherhood should never define the limits of a woman’s career.
