New Delhi, Sep 10 (SocialNews.XYZ) Delhi Legislative Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta on Thursday advised college students not to worry about their future but to try to focus on learning and contributing towards nation-building.
“Every young person has a role in shaping the India of tomorrow,” said the Speaker while interacting with students during their visit to the Delhi Legislative Assembly under the Assembly’s Youth Outreach Programme.
Students from Kirori Mal College, Sukhdev College, Law Centre-I, Law Centre-II and Shaheed Bhagat Singh College, University of Delhi, visited the Delhi Legislative Assembly on Thursday as part of the ongoing initiative to provide young people with an opportunity to experience democratic institutions beyond classrooms and textbooks, according to an official statement.
The visit brought together students from diverse academic backgrounds and created an engaging platform for discussion on democracy, constitutional values, public life and the responsibilities of the youth.
During the interaction, Gupta encouraged students to remain confident about their journey and not allow academic, professional or social pressures to overshadow their potential.
He said that every individual can contribute to the nation in his or her own field and that nation-building is not limited to politics or public office. “Whatever profession you choose, perform with honesty, excellence and a sense of responsibility towards society,” he said.
The Speaker emphasised that the strength of a democracy ultimately depends on an informed and responsible citizenry.
He encouraged the students to develop the habit of listening to different viewpoints, asking questions and understanding issues before forming opinions.
He said that disagreement and debate are natural and necessary elements of a vibrant democracy, provided they remain within the framework of constitutional values and mutual respect.
The students also interacted with Gupta on a range of issues relating to the functioning of the legislature, the role of elected representatives, democratic participation and the relationship between citizens and public institutions, the statement said.
The interaction witnessed enthusiastic participation from the students, who raised questions and shared their perspectives on contemporary issues and the role of young citizens in a changing India.
As part of the educational visit, the students undertook a guided tour of the historic Delhi Legislative Assembly complex.
They were introduced to its distinctive architectural character and its significant place in India’s parliamentary history.
Through documentaries and presentations, the students learnt about the building’s association with the Central Legislative Assembly and the important personalities and developments connected with its legacy.
The students were also introduced to the Assembly’s commemorative Coffee Table Book “Ek Shatabdi Yatra”, which traces the institution’s historic journey and parliamentary heritage. The visit further took the students into the main Assembly Chamber, offering them a first-hand glimpse of the setting in which legislative debates, discussions and proceedings are conducted.
