Artificial Teaser Is Out, Andrew Garfield Leads Luca Guadagnino's High Stakes AI Drama

NEON has unveiled the first teaser trailer for Artificial, the upcoming drama from acclaimed Italian filmmaker Luca Guadagnino, and the film looks set to explore the rise of artificial intelligence through a distinctly human lens. Starring Andrew Garfield, Yura Borisov and Monica Barbaro, the movie tackles the extraordinary journey of machine learning while digging into the ambition, relationships and moral questions that have helped shape the modern AI era.

Garfield stars as Sam Altman, with Anora breakout Yura Borisov portraying computer scientist Ilya Sutskever and Monica Barbaro playing Mira Murati. The impressive ensemble also features Ike Barinholtz as Elon Musk, Cooper Hoffman, Jason Schwartzman and Mark Rylance as Geoffrey Hinton, widely regarded as one of the pioneering figures in modern AI research. With such a stacked cast portraying real-world personalities, Artificial already has plenty of curiosity surrounding it.

The story begins in 2003, when Soviet-born computer scientist Ilya Sutskever starts studying artificial neural networks under University of Toronto professor Geoffrey Hinton. A decade later, Sutskever's path crosses with a young entrepreneur named Sam Altman while working at Google. That encounter ultimately connects him to the beginnings of OpenAI and sets the stage for a story that stretches across two decades of rapid technological advancement and increasingly complicated questions about where AI is taking humanity.

Described as a thrilling, funny and deeply human drama, Artificial isn't simply interested in explaining how machine learning developed. The film looks at the people behind the technology and the choices that helped propel the industry forward. As AI has gone from an ambitious research field to one of the biggest technological forces in the world, Guadagnino appears ready to examine the excitement and recklessness that came along with that transformation.

For Guadagnino, Artificial marks another fascinating departure after films such as Call Me by Your Name, Suspiria, Bones and All, Challengers and Queer. The filmmaker is known for bringing strong visual identities and complicated emotional dynamics to his projects, and this time he is stepping into the rapidly evolving world of technology. The screenplay comes from Simon Rich, adding another potentially unexpected ingredient to a film dealing with a subject that can often feel overwhelmingly technical.

With the AI revolution continuing to dominate conversations around technology, creativity, work and society, Artificial arrives at a particularly interesting moment. The film promises to turn a complicated history of machine learning and Silicon Valley ambition into an accessible human drama, while its star-studded cast gives the project considerable appeal. Artificial is scheduled to arrive in theatres on December 25, 2026, giving audiences a very different kind of Christmas movie to put on their watchlist.
