Srinagar, Sep 8 (SocialNews.XYZ) The second Union Territory-level Joint Coordination Committee (JCC) meeting on Narcotics Control for Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh was held in Srinagar on Tuesday, with senior officials from multiple enforcement and intelligence agencies reviewing strategies to strengthen the fight against drug trafficking.
Officials said the meeting was held at the Police Control Room, Srinagar, under the chairmanship of DDG (NWR), NCB, and IG Crime/ANTF Head of J&K Police.
Senior officers from various enforcement and stakeholder agencies, including ED, BSF, State Drug Controller, IB, Customs, DRI, Income Tax, and NIA, along with District SSPs from Jammu, Srinagar and Ganderbal participated in the meeting.
The participating agencies shared their experiences and enforcement initiatives and deliberated upon emerging trends in drug trafficking, inter-State linkages, illicit cultivation, information sharing, joint investigation, financial investigation and effective prosecution.
Discussion was also held on making sincere efforts for implementation of ‘Vision Document on Drug Control (2026-2029)’ by the Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, Amit Shah, in the 10th apex-level meeting of the Narco-Coordination Centre (NCORD) in New Delhi on June 26.
It was highlighted that the emphasis shall be on a network-centric approach to combat the drug menace. Further, emphasis was laid upon the need for strengthened inter-agency coordination, joint interrogation, effective financial investigation and greater utilization of available information-sharing mechanisms.
The meeting concluded with a call for sustained cooperation among all stakeholder agencies and adoption of a Whole-of-Government approach to detect, disrupt and dismantle drug trafficking networks in J&K and Ladakh.
Narcotics control is a major challenge faced by the country, and is more serious in border states like Punjab, J&K, Ladakh, Rajasthan, Gujarat and the northeast.
In recent months, the Narcotics Control Bureau has seized heroin and other narcotic substances in huge quantities costing tens of millions.
The control of narcotics assumes national significance not just for its danger of running a parallel economy, but more so for destroying future generations through addiction.
