Salem (Tamil Nadu), Sep 7 (SocialNews.XYZ) Tamil Nadu is set to experience contrasting weather conditions over the coming days, with moderate rain forecast in districts along the Western Ghats, rising temperatures across the interior and strong winds over the southern coastal waters.
In its latest weather bulletin, the Regional Meteorological Centre said moderate rain was likely in the Western Ghats districts for five days beginning late in the day.
Other parts of the State may also receive isolated showers, depending on local weather conditions. At the same time, residents of interior Tamil Nadu have been advised to prepare for hotter weather.
Maximum temperatures in some places could remain as much as four degrees Celsius above normal for the next four days. The combination of heat and humidity could cause discomfort, particularly during the afternoon hours.
Chennai is expected to have a partly cloudy sky during the day. Light rain may occur in parts of the city and its suburbs during the evening or at night, offering some respite from the prevailing warm conditions. The forecast, however, does not indicate widespread or sustained rainfall for the capital.
The weather office has issued a separate warning for fishermen operating off the southern Tamil Nadu coast. Squally winds with speeds reaching 55 km per hour are likely over the Gulf of Mannar, the adjoining southern coastal belt and the Comorin Sea.
Fishermen have been advised not to venture into these areas until conditions improve. Following the warning, Fisheries Department officials said permits would not be issued to mechanised boat fishermen in Rameswaram to enter the sea. The restriction will remain in force until further notice as a precaution against rough conditions and potentially dangerous winds.
The suspension is expected to keep fishing boats anchored along the Rameswaram coast and may temporarily affect fishing operations and the daily income of crews dependent on deep-sea voyages.
Officials are expected to review the situation on the basis of subsequent weather bulletins. People living in coastal areas have also been urged to remain alert to sudden changes in wind conditions.
Authorities advised fishermen and boat operators to closely follow official warnings rather than take risks based on short periods of apparently calm weather.
The weather department will continue closely monitoring the rain, temperature and wind pattern and issue updates if there is any significant change.
