Mani Ratnam To Direct Sai Pallavi And Vijay Sethupathi In Upcoming Romantic Drama

Mani Ratnam To Direct Sai Pallavi And Vijay Sethupathi In Upcoming Romantic Drama

A new Mani Ratnam film is already creating intrigue without even revealing its title. Vijay Sethupathi has shared a 36-second teaser for his upcoming romantic drama with Sai Pallavi, announcing that the much-awaited title will be unveiled on September 7. The teaser arrives with the evocative line, “Between light and shadow, life finds its colours,” setting the mood for what appears to be an intimate and visually rich story from Mani Ratnam.

The teaser does not give away much about the plot, and that restraint is perhaps what makes it so intriguing. Instead, viewers are treated to artistic visuals, vibrant colours and glimpses of everyday Indian settings, accompanied by the film’s production credits. It feels less like a conventional announcement and more like a tiny window into the world Ratnam is creating. With the filmmaker known for blending romance, emotion and striking visual storytelling, even these brief images have naturally sent fans searching for clues about what is coming.

The project also brings together a fascinating combination of talent. A.R. Rahman, Ratnam’s celebrated creative collaborator, is composing the music, adding another layer of anticipation to the film. The project is being presented as Madras Talkies Production No. 23, with Subaskaran presenting it under Lyca Productions. The technical team further includes cinematographer Avik Mukhopadhayay and editor Sreekar Prasad, suggesting that the film is being mounted with a strong emphasis on visual atmosphere and craft.

For Vijay Sethupathi, the film marks another reunion with Mani Ratnam after their previous collaboration in Chekka Chivantha Vaanam. This time, however, the actor steps into a romantic drama alongside Sai Pallavi, making the pairing one of the most interesting elements of the project. Sai Pallavi’s presence brings its own excitement, particularly because this marks her first collaboration with Mani Ratnam. Her natural screen presence and emotional performances could make for an intriguing match with Sethupathi’s distinctive acting style.

The film has already begun its journey on the ground, with shooting reportedly commencing in Kolkata in July 2026. The production is also expected to travel to Puducherry, opening up plenty of possibilities for the film’s visual palette. The teaser’s emphasis on colour, ordinary locations and fleeting moments could hint at a story that finds romance and emotion within familiar surroundings rather than relying purely on larger-than-life spectacle.

And now, the countdown is officially on. The title reveal on September 7 is likely to answer the biggest question surrounding the project while giving fans a clearer idea of its identity. With Mani Ratnam behind the camera, Vijay Sethupathi and Sai Pallavi leading the cast, A.R. Rahman creating the musical world and Netflix attached for digital rights, expectations are already high. For now, though, the filmmakers are keeping the mystery intact — and after that poetic teaser, fans have just one thing left to ask: what is this beautiful new Mani Ratnam film called?
