Jaipur, Sep 4 (SocialNews.XYZ) Rajasthan Police have brought back alleged kidnapping mastermind Karan Aswani alias Kamal Sindhi from Dubai, nearly a year after he fled India following the abduction of a Jaipur businessman and the subsequent ransom demand made to his family, police said on Friday.
Aswani, a key accused in the kidnapping of businessman Narendra Nath Datta, was traced in the UAE through coordinated efforts between the Rajasthan Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF), Interpol and other international agencies. He was detained by the Abu Dhabi Interpol unit before being extradited to India and brought to Jaipur late on Thursday night.
The operation was conducted under the direction of Dinesh MN, Additional Director General of Police (ATS, ANTF and AGTF). It was supervised by Deputy Inspector General of Police Yogesh Yadav and Additional Superintendent of Police Siddhant Sharma. Deputy Superintendent of Police Ravindra Pratap and Police Inspectors Sunil Jangid and Shri Ram Singh Nathawat, along with their teams, played a key role in tracing the accused, gathering information about his criminal network, and coordinating with the concerned agencies.
An FIR was registered at Khoh Nagorian police station on August 21, 2025. According to the complaint, businessman Narendra Nath Datta had left his Jaipur residence on August 20, 2025, for Vaishali Nagar. He was accompanied by an acquaintance and a driver. When his family later found that his mobile phone had been switched off, they became concerned. The following day, the family received a call from Datta’s mobile phone informing them that he had been kidnapped and demanding ransom for his release.
Taking immediate action, the police launched an investigation and successfully rescued Narendra Nath Datta and his driver, Yogesh. During the investigation, police arrested Harsh Gautam, Kanak Ganguly and Ajay Beniwal, alias Shaka.
The investigation revealed that the accused had allegedly dressed in police uniforms and conspired to kidnap Narendra Nath Datta and others. The victims were held captive at different locations, including Agra, while ransom was demanded from their families. The Innova Crysta belonging to the victim was recovered from Harsh Gautam’s possession.
Police also seized the Swift car allegedly used in the crime. Further investigation revealed details of how the victims were allegedly kept captive in Agra and at other locations. As Karan Aswani’s alleged role in the case emerged, police teams searched his suspected hideouts. However, he remained absconding.
The investigation also indicated his links with an organised crime syndicate, while evidence against his alleged accomplices in the kidnapping and ransom case was established during the probe. Police subsequently obtained an arrest warrant against Aswani from the court. By the time the search for him intensified, however, investigators discovered that he had already fled the country.
After receiving information that he had fled to Dubai, the AGTF expanded the investigation internationally. A Red Corner Notice was issued against him, and the team maintained continuous coordination with relevant agencies. The AGTF remained in regular contact with the Interpol unit in Abu Dhabi, UAE, and shared crucial information concerning the accused. Using technical surveillance and other investigative methods, the team traced his location and passed the information to the Abu Dhabi Interpol team. The accused was subsequently detained by the Abu Dhabi Interpol authorities.
A Rajasthan Police team led by Additional Superintendent of Police Siddharth Sharma left Jaipur for Dubai on August 31. After completing the required legal and coordination formalities, the team took custody of Karan Aswani and brought him back to Jaipur late Thursday night. With his return to Jaipur, the accused, who had allegedly fled abroad following the kidnapping case, is now in the custody of the Rajasthan Police.
