New Delhi, Sep 1 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) on Tuesday welcomed the Supreme Court's order directing the quashing of FIRs registered against student protesters in Delhi, Bihar, Maharashtra, West Bengal, and Assam, as well as other parts of the country, in connection with protests held between July 20 and 25, saying that the outfit couldn't have let students' futures get affected for participating in the agitation.
The CJP has also decided to call off its proposed September 5 protest march in view of the Union government's assurances and the order being passed by the Supreme Court.
Speaking to reporters, CJP's chief spokesperson Saurav Das emphasised that former Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan's resignation on July 25 was a "very big victory" for the youth of the country.
Referring to the joint press conference with Union Ministers J.P. Nadda and Jitendra Singh on the same day, he recalled: "There were two demands from us, including compensation for the families whose children died by suicide due to the NEET paper leak and an assurance that the FIRs filed against protesters, youth, and students across the country would be withdrawn".
"Since then, we had been holding dialogues with a high-level delegation of the government. It was due to our efforts that notifications were issued in several states, assuring that FIRs registered against student protesters would be taken back and that no action would be taken against them in future as well."
However, Das said that the assurances from the Union government, including a written statement for compensation to the families of NEET victims and withdrawal of FIRs registered by Delhi police and other central agencies, were not received before Tuesday.
"The youth have an entire future ahead of them, and we could not let that get affected due to FIRs and police action," he asserted.
Das also mentioned that CJP had urged the government to state before the Supreme Court that the compensation, in an honourable amount, would be paid within 90 days.
"The funds will be credited directly to the families’ bank accounts. The government gave this assurance to the Supreme Court today, and the Court accepted it, granting it judicial sanctity by incorporating it into its order," he stated.
The CJP spokesperson further said: "I want to declare that we are calling off our peaceful protest march scheduled for September 5 from India Gate to the new Police Headquarters because the government has accepted all our demands."
