Bengal BJP MLA served show‑cause notice over remarks against Union Minister

Kolkata, Aug 26 (SocialNews.XYZ) The West Bengal unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday evening issued a show‑cause notice to Satyendra Nath Ray, a first‑time legislator from Gangarampur Assembly Constituency in South 24 Parganas district, for allegedly making slanderous and derogatory social media statements against Union Minister of State Sukanta Majumdar, who is also the party’s Lok Sabha member from Balurghat constituency.

Although the notice did not specifically mention Majumdar’s name, a state committee insider confirmed it was in relation to recent social media comments linking Majumdar with Biplab Mitra, a former minister in the previous Mamata Banerjee‑led Trinamool Congress cabinet.

“This action was taken on the recommendation of the party’s disciplinary committee and on the instructions of state president Samik Bhattacharya. The MLA’s remarks against the Union Minister are shameful and against the party constitution,” the notice stated.

The notice asks Ray to reply within seven days.

A few days ago, the MLA went live on Facebook, alleging an “unusually sweet relationship” between some BJP leaders and Trinamool Congress ministers.

In that video, he claimed a section of Trinamool leaders were trying to enter the BJP to sabotage it from within.

He also made controversial remarks linking Majumdar with Mitra, which triggered strong reactions within the party.

A BJP state committee member said Ray has been asked to explain why disciplinary action should not be taken against him for making derogatory comments about a senior party leader who is also a Union Minister of State.

The party leadership has made it clear that such remarks are unacceptable and violate organisational discipline.

The incident has created unease within the BJP’s state unit, especially ahead of crucial organisational activities in West Bengal.

The disciplinary committee’s decision on Ray’s response will determine whether further action is taken against him.
