Solar Turbines is a global manufacturer of industrial gas turbines, gas compressors and related energy solutions, serving oil and gas and power generation customers worldwide. In Angola, the company has established a substantial installed base: its first gas turbine was installed in the country in 1971, with more than 150 turbines and compressors now in operation, according to its official local partner, Atlantic Logistic Services.
This experience takes on greater relevance as Angola accelerates its transition from predominantly associated gas production toward dedicated gas development. In March 2026, the country achieved first gas from the New Gas Consortium’s (NGC) Quiluma field, marking the start of production from Angola’s first non-associated gas development. Initial supply was 150 million standard cubic feet per day (mmscf/d), with production expected to rise above 300 mmscf/d during 2026. Gas is processed at the NGC treatment plant in Soyo before being supplied to the Angola LNG facility for export and domestic consumption.
The project builds on other investments designed to strengthen Angola’s gas supply chain. The Sanha Lean Gas Connection project, led by Chevron, started production in December 2024, supplying gas from Block 0 to Angola LNG and the domestic market. Together, Sanha and the NGC are helping establish more reliable feedstock for Angola LNG, which has liquefaction capacity of 5.2 million tons per year.
These developments are creating a larger market for the infrastructure required to move and monetize gas. Industrial gas turbines and centrifugal compressors play important roles across gas compression, processing, pipeline transportation and power generation – areas in which Solar Turbines specializes.
As an Associate Sponsor, Solar Turbines’ participation comes at a pivotal point for Angola’s gas ambitions. With new non-associated supply coming online, LNG feedstock increasing and further gas commercialization opportunities emerging, technology capable of improving compression, reliability and efficiency will be increasingly important to converting Angola’s gas resources into production and long-term economic value.
