MP: Congress demands probe into Rs 600 crore treasury irregularity

Bhopal, Aug 24 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Madhya Pradesh Congress on Monday stepped up its attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government over an alleged Rs 600‑crore financial irregularity in the state treasury, demanding a probe into the transactions and recovery of the money allegedly lost.

Congress state president Jitu Patwari said the alleged irregularity involved public money and demanded that the government fix responsibility and disclose the status of the investigation and recovery.

Patwari claimed that 24 government departments were under scrutiny, suspicious transactions involving nearly Rs 305 crore had been detected, and about 400 officers and employees were under the scanner. He further alleged that around Rs 380 crore was yet to be recovered.

He questioned how transactions involving such a large amount could allegedly continue for a prolonged period without detection and sought an investigation into the possible involvement of senior officials, influential persons or those who may have provided political or administrative protection.

“Every rupee of the government treasury will have to be accounted for. The culprits and those shielding them must be exposed, and every penny of the people’s money must be recovered,” Patwari said.

He demanded that the state government disclose the amount recovered so far, the outstanding amount and the action taken against officials and employees found responsible. Patwari also said the investigation should not be confined to lower‑level employees and that the role of senior officials and influential persons should be examined if evidence emerged against them. He demanded political and administrative accountability and called for the resignation of the state Finance Minister on moral grounds.

Senior Congress leader and former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath also joined the attack, saying the alleged irregularity was a serious issue involving public funds. Nath questioned how such large‑scale transactions could allegedly take place without being detected and demanded an impartial investigation to establish responsibility.

He sought disclosure of the amount recovered and the action taken against those responsible, besides calling for an examination of the role of senior officials or influential persons who may have facilitated or protected the alleged irregularities.

“Every rupee of public money must be accounted for, and those responsible must be exposed,” Kamal Nath wrote on X.
