New Delhi/Srinagar, Aug 24 (SocialNews.XYZ) Migrant Kashmiri Pandit employees working in the Kashmir Valley under the Prime Minister's Package scheme on Monday urged the Jammu and Kashmir administration to strengthen their security and provide enhanced protection in view of what they described as fresh threats allegedly issued by terrorists.
The All PM Package Employees Forum Kashmir has approached the Jammu and Kashmir Chief Secretary, seeking immediate security measures for employees serving under the PM Package following the emergence of a purported threat poster on social media.
In its letter to the Chief Secretary, the forum drew attention to what it described as a serious security concern involving the safety of migrant Kashmiri Pandit employees posted in the Valley. The employees said the fresh threat had created anxiety among members of the community, particularly because the poster allegedly contains personal information of some individuals.
According to the employees' forum, the poster reportedly carries threats against migrant Kashmiri Pandit employees and allegedly mentions sensitive personal details, including the names, residential addresses, and vehicle registration numbers of certain individuals.
The forum, however, acknowledged that the authenticity of the poster and the claims made in it have not yet been independently established. Security agencies are yet to confirm either the credibility of the threat or the existence and authenticity of the organisation that has purportedly issued it.
The development has nevertheless caused concern among employees and members of the wider Kashmiri Pandit community, who have urged the government to investigate how details such as names, addresses and vehicle numbers could have reached those behind the alleged threat.
Speaking to IANS, a Kashmiri Pandit said: "One letter had come in the first week of August, and now, yesterday, they again sent a threat. We demand that the security agencies to find out how they get to know about our personal details. Additionally, we want to make it clear that we are also Kashmiris; we have equal rights on Kashmir. We will go back one day."
The community member also said that such threats have a deep emotional impact on families who continue to carry memories of the violence and displacement of the 1990s.
"These letters are painful to our parents because of the 1990 genocide. Our request to the Chief Secretary is to please find out how these people are finding out about us. We demand that the government ensures that these threats just stop," he added.
The concerns were also raised in Kulgam, where All Minority Employees Association Kashmir (AMEAK) President Sanjay Kaul spoke about the situation facing minority employees who have been working in the Valley for several years.
Speaking to reporters, Kaul said: "As minority employees, we have been working here since 2010, while some have been working here since 2007-09. Overall, we have spent nearly 20 years here. We came here to work, earn our livelihood and support our families. Unfortunately, this new trend of threats, including Jammu names and addresses, is a matter of serious concern."
Kaul said the inclusion of vehicle registration numbers in the alleged threat was particularly worrying and called for an investigation into how such information could have been accessed.
"The biggest concern is the vehicle number. The department concerned, particularly the Transport Department, needs to introspect. There should be a thorough investigation into how this happened," he said.
A member of the Kashmiri Pandit community residing in Mumbai also expressed concern over the alleged targeting of employees working in the Valley and urged the authorities to take preventive measures.
Talking to IANS, the community member said: "It is troubling that these people have got the details of our Hindu brothers and sisters working in Kashmir. We don’t want the same pattern to be repeated. We don't want Hindus to be selectively targeted by these terrorists again. We want the government to take appropriate steps to ensure that the employees are protected."
The employees’ forum has sought urgent intervention from the Jammu and Kashmir administration, particularly in light of the alleged availability of personal details of individuals working under the PM Package.
