Bhopal, Aug 24 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Madhya Pradesh government will organise agriculture innovation dialogue programmes at the divisional and district levels to promote modern farming techniques, technology and agriculture‑based entrepreneurship among youth, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav said on Monday.
Addressing a youth dialogue at Ravindra Bhavan in Bhopal, Yadav said the initiative would help connect young people with new opportunities in agriculture and contribute to increasing farmers’ income.
He noted that the nature of agriculture was changing rapidly and stressed that by adopting new technology, new crops, modern agricultural machinery, horticulture, organic and natural farming, young people could make agriculture a profitable business.
Yadav said agriculture faculties had been introduced in several universities and urged young people studying agriculture to explore innovation and entrepreneurship while remaining connected with farming.
He added that young farmers could increase their income through polyhouse cultivation, food processing, warehousing, mushroom farming, pearl farming and beekeeping. Mushroom and pearl farming, he said, could even be started from a single room, while horticulture crops could provide higher returns from smaller landholdings.
The Chief Minister also stressed the need for farmers to diversify their income by taking up dairy, fisheries, goat rearing and poultry along with crop cultivation.
He said Madhya Pradesh was currently the third‑largest milk‑producing state in the country and that the government had signed an agreement with the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) to strengthen the dairy sector.
The state has set a target of producing one lakh Gir breed calves annually, Yadav said, adding that improved livestock would help increase milk production and provide farmers with a regular source of income.
Under the Bhimrao Ambedkar Kamdhenu Yojana, the government is providing a subsidy of Rs 10 lakh for setting up a 25‑cow dairy with a project cost of around Rs 43 lakh, he said.
Yadav said three fish‑seed hatcheries had been established in Madhya Pradesh to promote fisheries and reduce dependence on other states for fish seed.
On farmers’ welfare, he said the state government had provided a bonus along with MSP for wheat procurement and implemented the Bhavantar scheme for soybean growers. He also said irrigation capacity was being expanded to ensure that more agricultural land received assured water supply.
