SIR will have generational impact on Nagaland, country : ECI Secretary Kohima, Aug 20 (IANS) Election Commission of India (ECI) Secretary Binod Kumar on Thursday urged election officials in Nagaland to give their best and treat the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral roll with utmost seriousness, saying the exercise would have a generational impact on both the state and the country. The ECI Secretary reviewed the progress of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the Photo Electoral Roll 2026 in Kohima district and discussed the challenges faced by officials, particularly in polling stations where the mapping and enumeration figures remain low. An election official said that Kumar directed the officials to ensure that the distribution and collection of Enumeration Forms are completed well in advance so that the revision exercise can be completed within the stipulated timeframe. The review meeting was attended by Additional Chief Electoral Officer Awa Lorin, Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer (DEO) of Kohima B. Henok Buchem, Electoral Registration Officers (EROs), Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs), and Booth Level Officers (BLOs) of the concerned polling stations. During the meeting, Kumar advised the EROs and AEROs to undertake field visits and directly interact with BLOs in areas where the SIR progress is comparatively low, so that bottlenecks could be identified and resolved promptly. The official said that the Election Commission has earlier directed the conduct of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in 16 states and three Union Territories, including Nagaland. He said that the schedule for Phase-III of the SIR has been finalised keeping in view the availability of the common field machinery engaged in the ongoing house-listing exercise for Census-2027. The official stated that the SIR is a participative exercise involving all stakeholders, including electors, political parties and election officials, with the objective of preparing a transparent, accurate and inclusive electoral roll. He said that all recognised political parties have been requested to appoint Booth Level Agents (BLAs) for every polling booth to ensure their active participation and to enhance transparency throughout the revision process. The qualifying date for the Special Intensive Revision in Nagaland has been fixed as October 1, 2026. According to the official, the draft electoral roll for the state would be published on September 20, 2026. Following the filing and disposal of claims and objections between September 20 and November 18, 2026, the final Photo Electoral Roll would be published on November 22, 2026.
