Met office predicts more rain in south Bengal till Sunday, heavy rain in north

Kolkata, Aug 20 (SocialNews.XYZ) Although the low pressure has weakened and moved towards the Jharkhand-Bihar region, conditions are still favourable for more rain over south Bengal districts in the next few days. The Met office said on Thursday that the southwest monsoon axis is active and it is over Jharkhand-Bihar and the western districts of West Bengal. Due to this, rain will continue in most districts of south and north Bengal for the next few days.

Today, light to moderate rain and thunderstorms are likely in several places, with some areas likely to experience a few spells of torrential rain. The maximum and minimum temperatures will hover around 33 and 28 degrees Celsius respectively.

 

On Friday, there is a possibility of light to moderate rain and thunderstorms in all districts of south Bengal, especially in Jhargram, East Midnapore, West Midnapore, North 24 Parganas, South 24 Parganas, Howrah, Murshidabad, Birbhum, Nadia and Kolkata.

Scattered light to moderate rain is likely in all districts of south Bengal till Sunday. Heavy rain is likely in East Midnapore and South 24 Parganas districts till Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the intensity of rain will increase in north Bengal this time and it will continue throughout the next week.

On Thursday and Friday, there is a possibility of heavy rain in four of the five upper districts of north Bengal, i.e., Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar and Cooch Behar. Light to moderate rain with thunderstorms and lightning is likely in all the remaining districts along with gusty winds.

Moderate rain is likely in most districts of north Bengal till Monday. The Met office has forecast heavy rains again in Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri and Alipurduar districts in the first two days of next week.

On Wednesday, the maximum temperature of the day in Kolkata and its surrounding areas was 32.02 degrees Celsius which is 00.02 degrees higher than normal. The minimum temperature was 27.01 degrees Celsius which is 00.07 degrees higher than normal. The relative humidity in the air is maximum 97 and minimum 66 per cent.
