Ambassador Nicholas Prea presents Credentials as Seychelles’ first resident High Commissioner to Mauritius

Ambassador Nicholas Prea presented his Letters of Credence to the President of the Republic of Mauritius, H.E. Mr. Dharambeer Gokhool, on Wednesday 12 August 2026 at State House, Le Réduit, Moka, officially assuming his duties as Seychelles’ first resident High Commissioner to Mauritius.

High Commissioner Prea conveyed greetings from the President of the Republic of Seychelles, Dr. Patrick Herminie, to President Gokhool and reaffirmed the longstanding ties between the two neighbouring island nations.

Discussions focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation in education, fisheries, trade and maritime security, including greater collaboration to safeguard the two countries’ shared maritime space and combat illicit activities at sea. Opportunities to further develop the Blue Economy were also highlighted, building on the countries’ historical links and shared maritime interests.

President Gokhool expressed particular interest in the discussions held between President Herminie and Prime Minister of Mauritius, H.E. Mr. Navinchandra Ramgoolam, on fuel importation and storage. High Commissioner Prea shared Seychelles’ experience in this area, with both sides exploring opportunities for cooperation to enhance fuel security and storage capacity.

High Commissioner Prea also held discussions with the Mauritian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade, the Honourable Dhananjay Ramful, on strengthening friendship, cooperation and trade between Seychelles and Mauritius. The upcoming 14th Session of the Seychelles–Mauritius Joint Commission was highlighted as an important platform for advancing bilateral cooperation and identifying new areas of collaboration.

The establishment of Seychelles’ first resident High Commission in Mauritius marks an important milestone in the relations between the two countries and is expected to further strengthen diplomatic engagement and cooperation.
