“A Dream Is A Wish Your Heart Makes”: Tara Sutaria On Her Fairy Tale Journey From Disney Princess To Toxic

Tara Sutaria is stepping into a very different kind of fairy tale with Toxic A Fairy Tale for Grown Ups, and the actress recently opened up about the experience during a media interaction in Bengaluru. Known for her graceful screen presence and the Disney princess image that has often followed her career, Tara was asked what it felt like to move from traditional fairy tales to a darker, more mature world. Her answer beautifully connected her past image with the ambitious world of Toxic.

Speaking about the comparison, Tara recalled a popular Disney sentiment and found an unexpected connection with the upcoming film. “It's a great question. Um, hello everyone and good evening. It's such a pleasure to be here in Bengaluru. I'm just so uh overwhelmed at the moment after watching the trailer,” she said before addressing the question. Tara then added, “There's actually, and because you brought Disney up, there's a very popular phrase from an old Disney fairy tale, which I think it goes something like, ‘A dream is a wish your heart makes.’”

For Tara, that thought perfectly captures what Toxic represents for everyone involved. Explaining why the line felt so appropriate, she said, “And it feels so fitting to Toxic and to this fairy tale that we've all created. Um because I think it's a dream and a wish that all of us have had I think collectively as a team to be a part of something and a fairy tale of sorts that is really outstanding, exceptional and something very very special to all of us in many different ways.”

The actress also admitted that she was still processing the scale of the film and the response surrounding its trailer. “And I think I'm just like I said overwhelmed and humbled and blessed uh to be with all of you and to be a part of this incredible story,” Tara said. Her words offered a glimpse into how deeply the project has resonated with her, particularly as she takes on the role of Rebecca in a film that promises to be unlike anything she has done before.

Directed by Geetu Mohandas, Toxic A Fairy Tale for Grown Ups is a gangster drama that combines a larger-than-life world of crime, power and revenge with a distinctly stylised fairy-tale approach. At the centre of Toxic is Raya, a violent gangster and playboy who rises through the underworld before eventually facing the consequences of his past. Years later, his biological son Rumi, also known as Ticket, returns with a burning desire for revenge after Raya abandoned him and his mother.
