New Delhi, Aug 10 (SocialNews.XYZ) Rajya Sabha Chairman C.P. Radhakrishnan on Monday adjourned the House till noon amid continuous protests by Opposition members demanding discussions on various issues.
After the formal business, the Chairman allowed matters of public importance under Zero Hour and called Rahul Sinha of the BJP from West Bengal. Opposition members immediately began shouting slogans and created a ruckus. The Chairman repeatedly said that nothing would go on record.
Amid the din, Babubhai Jesangbhai of the BJP from Gujarat highlighted the spread of Chandipura virus in the state.
Tarun Chugh raised the deteriorating law and order situation in Punjab and the drug addiction problem in bordering areas leading to an increasing rate of crime in the state. Referring to the NCRB 2024 report, he said Punjab ranked highest in illegal drug seizures and that the state government had failed to control the menace. He claimed the crime rate was so high that even the Punjab Police headquarters had been attacked with a rocket launcher.
K. Laxman of the BJP sought national guidelines restricting independent use of artificial intelligence by children below 13 years of age. He said AI-supported education should be available beyond costly private schools without compromising talent and values.
Sandosh Kumar P. of the CPI(M) from Kerala raised an issue in the Malayalam language, while Opposition members continued sloganeering and disruptions despite the Chairman’s warnings, leading to the adjournment of the House till noon.
The House had assembled at 11 a.m. and first transacted a series of papers, reports and a ministerial statement.
Members laid papers relating to the Ministries of Power, Coal and Mines, Defence, Jal Shakti, and Civil Aviation.
Tokhan Sahu laid the Comptroller and Auditor General’s performance audit report (No. 7 of 2026) on the implementation of Phases 1 and 2 of the Bangalore Metro Rail Project by the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited under the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.
Sanjay Seth tabled six action-taken reports of the Standing Committee on Finance covering the Competition Commission of India’s role in the digital economy, the National Statistical Commission, and Demands for Grants for 2026-27 of the Departments of Revenue, Corporate Affairs, Planning, and Statistics and Programme Implementation.
Jaya Bachchan presented the Standing Committee on Housing and Urban Affairs’ 11th report on action taken regarding the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation with emphasis on urban drinking water.
K. Laxman laid two reports of the Standing Committee on Railways on freight earnings, Dedicated Freight Corridors and the Ministry’s Demands for Grants for 2026-27.
Shripad Yesso Naik made a statement on the status of implementation of recommendations of the Standing Committee on Energy on Demands for Grants for the Ministry of Power.
K. Laxman also laid a statement on further action taken by the government on recommendations concerning construction and maintenance of rail tunnels and bridges, including road over and under bridges.
Meenakshi Jain tabled four action-taken reports of the Standing Committee on Social Justice and Empowerment on Demands for Grants for social justice, disability empowerment, tribal affairs and minority affairs.
