Chandigarh, Aug 10 (SocialNews.XYZ) In a major breakthrough against cross-border terror networks, an ISI-sponsored Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) terror module was busted, and a key operative was arrested with a hand grenade, said Punjab Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav on Monday
The operation was jointly carried out by the Counter Intelligence Jalandhar and the SBS Nagar Police. They busted the BKI terror module operated by foreign-based handlers with the arrest of the key operative and recovery of an 86-P hand grenade.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the arrested accused had allegedly procured the grenade from Adampur in Jalandhar district on the directions of foreign-based handlers. The DGP said a first information report (FIR) has been registered at the police station Sadar in Nawanshahr town in SBS Nagar under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Explosive Substances Act.
Further investigation is underway to expose the complete terror network, including foreign handlers, local support networks and forward and backward linkages.
Earlier, Counter Intelligence Ferozepur, in a joint operation with Border Security Force (BSF), busted a major cross-border narcotics smuggling module with the arrest of two individuals, and recovered 30 heroin from their possession.
Those arrested had been identified as Sukhwinder Singh and Manpreet Singh.
Apart from recovering a big haul of heroin, police teams had also impounded their motorcycle being used for smuggling activities. Sharing operational details, Assistant Inspector General (Ferozepur) Gursewak Singh had said that, acting upon a specific tip-off, the police conducted a special joint operation with BSF Fazilka near Satirwala village in Fazilka.
During the operation, the police party apprehended two suspected persons travelling on the motorcycle and recovered 30.200 kg heroin from their possession.
He had said then that more arrests and recoveries are likely in the coming days as the investigation progresses.
An FIR under sections 21-C, 25 and 29 of the NDPS Act was registered at Police Station State Special Operation Cell in Fazilka, the official said.
