Yash Says Toxic Is Not Just a Kannada Film: “This Is an Indian Film” And Reveals the Vision Behind the Ambitious Project

At the grand Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups trailer launch in Bengaluru, Yash made a powerful statement about the film's identity, refusing to place it inside the boundaries of Kannada, Tamil or Telugu cinema. For the superstar, Toxic represents something much bigger—a coming together of talent from across the country with one shared ambition. “I believe in one thing now. It is no more Kannada, Tamil, Telugu. This is an Indian film,” Yash declared to loud cheers from the audience.

Explaining why he believes Toxic represents the changing face of Indian cinema, Yash said, “This is the right example to see talented people from their respective industry. They're doing really great. This movie is not Yash's film. This is an Indian film.” The actor stressed that the project brought together successful actors, filmmakers and technicians who could have easily approached a multi-star film with individual ambitions, but instead chose to put those differences aside. According to him, the film happened because everyone involved came together with one larger goal—to take Indian cinema to a global audience.

Yash openly acknowledged that working with several successful actors can sometimes bring insecurities and egos into the equation. “Every actor is selfish. That's the fact. When you're working, you want to be the best,” he said. But Toxic, according to him, became an exception because the cast and crew put their individual concerns aside. “All these lovely talented successful people have kept their egos aside, kept other things aside and they've just come with one cause to put Indian film on a global platform,” he added.

The actor also spoke about the enormous challenge behind the film. Toxic was shot in Canada and in English, with Yash revealing that the team worked for nearly 200 days and created two versions of the film. He admitted that the project was never designed as a straightforward commercial package where audiences could easily predict the result based on the actor, director or genre. “This was a very unique combination and it was a very unique attempt,” Yash explained, adding that the decisions made on the film were not easy.

For Yash, the driving force behind Toxic was never simply past success—it was Geetu Mohandas' passion. The actor said he has always believed in a director's passion more than their previous achievements. “I always believe in director's passion than their past success,” he said. Talking about Geetu, he recalled seeing someone with a burning desire to show the world what she was capable of. “She had a burning passion, desire and to show the world what she's capable of doing and what a true cinema can be,” Yash said, praising the sacrifices and dedication she made for the project.

He also revealed that the film's ambitious scale was possible because the entire team believed in the same vision. Yash said the cast members had busy schedules but still dedicated their time to the project, while the film's production demanded immense patience and commitment. “We have shot for 200 days,” he revealed, underlining just how much work went into creating the world of Toxic.

Ultimately, Yash's message was about breaking barriers—between languages, industries and even conventional ideas of what a star-driven film should be. With a cast featuring Yash, Nayanthara, Kiara Advani, Huma Qureshi, Tara Sutaria and Rukmini Vasanth, Toxic brings together performers from different corners of Indian cinema. Directed by Geetu Mohandas and jointly produced by Venkat K. Narayana and Yash, the film was shot simultaneously in Kannada and English and is scheduled to release worldwide on August 26, 2026.

For Yash, then, Toxic is not simply another addition to his filmography. It is an attempt to create something that belongs to everyone. “This movie is not Yash's film. This is an Indian film,” he said—and that statement could well become the defining message of the ambitious project.
