Ahmedabad, Aug 8 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) on Saturday terminated the appointment of Amit Dongre, who was serving as Probationary Chief Fire Officer in its Fire and Emergency Services Department, following an Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) trap in which a third person was allegedly caught accepting a Rs 36,000 bribe for approving fire NOCs for six buildings in the city.
The civic body took the action with immediate effect after the ACB's trap on Friday established, prima facie, Dongre's alleged involvement in the bribe demand.
According to the ACB, Dongre had allegedly demanded Rs 36,000 through a third person, Bhavsinh Zala, 31, in connection with the approval of Fire No-Objection Certificates (NOCs) for six separate buildings in Ahmedabad.
The alleged amount worked out to Rs 6,000 per NOC.
The complainant, who works as a Fire Safety Officer and provides fire safety-related services to buildings in Ahmedabad, had submitted the NOC applications through the state government's online portal.
After the alleged bribe demand was made, the complainant approached the Vadodara City ACB Police Station.
The ACB subsequently laid a trap in the presence of two government panch witnesses near Yash Equa Complex at Vijay Cross Roads in Memnagar.
Zala allegedly held a "purposeful conversation" with the complainant and accepted the Rs 36,000, following which he was caught red-handed. The entire alleged bribe amount was recovered, officials said.
During the operation, Zala also spoke to Dongre over the telephone. The ACB said that during the conversation, Dongre expressed his consent regarding the bribe amount.
Based on the preliminary findings, the bureau alleged that Zala had demanded and accepted the money at Dongre's instance and that both had abetted each other in the alleged offence.
Dongre, 47, was serving as Probationary Chief Fire Officer of the AMC's Fire and Emergency Services Department.
Following the ACB action and the allegations against him, the AMC has now terminated his appointment with immediate effect. The ACB has initiated legal proceedings against both Dongre and Zala.
The case relates specifically to the alleged demand and acceptance of money for processing fire NOCs; the ACB's findings are at the preliminary stage, and further legal proceedings are underway.
