Amaravati, Aug 7 (SocialNews.XYZ) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Friday announced that a law will be enacted soon for the protection of backward classes.
Stating that the coalition government bears the responsibility of protecting Backward Classes (BCs), he revealed that the draft for the BC Protection Act is ready.
He was addressing a programme at Kothapeta village in Bapatla district, marking the 12th National Handloom Day.
On this occasion, he launched the 'Nethanna Sevalo' (In service of weavers) scheme under which the government is providing financial assistance of Rs 25,000 each to eligible weaver families. He released Rs 179 crore for 71,536 weaver families.
The Chief Minister stated that despite the financial difficulties, the government is not compromising on welfare and development.
He urged people to remain vigilant against conspiracies aimed at obstructing the state's progress, asserting that the government would deal sternly with such individuals.
The Chief Minister said that the ‘Nethanna Sevalo’ scheme stands as proof that the government is implementing not only the promises made during elections but also taking measures that were not explicitly pledged.
“Handloom is not merely a profession; it is a symbol of Indian culture and an art form that makes the nation proud. Our state is home to diverse handloom traditions, and we are extending our support to this community,” he said.
The Chief Minister noted that handloom products from places like Chirala, Venkatagiri, Dharmavaram, Uppada, Mangalagiri, Ponduru, Pedana, Srikalahasti, and Narsapuram have earned distinct recognition. About 1.27 lakh people depend on the handloom sector for their livelihood.
He said that the government is already providing free electricity to weavers—offering up to 200 units per month for handloom families and up to 500 units for power loom units. This benefits 62,541 handloom families and 10,032 power loom units. The government is also providing the 'NTR Pension Bharosa' pension to weavers starting at the age of 50. It is providing a monthly pension of Rs 4,000 to 85,000 weavers, amounting to Rs 35 crore per month and an annual expenditure of Rs 420 crore.
The government provided Rs 79 crore through cash credit to 109 primary handloom cooperative societies in the state. It is establishing a dedicated infrastructure project in Uppada and a handloom park in Mangalagiri. A handloom and handicrafts museum is also coming up at Sakhamuru in Amaravati. Additionally, a sustainable textile recycling unit is set to be established in Visakhapatnam with an investment of Rs 4,200 crore.
Targeting the YSR Congress Party, Chandrababu Naidu said the previous government left the State without a capital and caused it to be looked down upon elsewhere.
“We are building Amaravati to be a magnificent city. The previous rulers flip-flopped on the capital issue, played a game of splitting it into three parts, and devastated the state. While other states in the country take pride in their capital cities, the previous regime left us with none,” he said.
The Chief Minister alleged that conspiracies are being hatched against the capital again. “They are making absurd claims about 'Mavigun' and 'Vatican.' Do we want that three-way split game again? Do we want to destroy the capital? Just as a family needs a home, a State needs a capital.”
