Guwahati, Aug 6 (SocialNews.XYZ) Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) Chief Hagrama Mohilary on Thursday led a 104-member relief team to the flood-ravaged Sivasagar district, where essential relief materials were distributed among families affected by the floods.
Mohilary, accompanied by MLA Arup Kumar Dey, visited several inundated areas to assess the situation and personally hand over relief supplies to residents struggling in the aftermath of prolonged flooding.
Sivasagar MLA Akhil Gogoi received the delegation on its arrival and accompanied the team during the relief distribution programme.
The BTC team brought thousands of bedsheets, mosquito nets, hygiene kits and other essential relief materials aimed at supporting families whose lives have been severely disrupted by the floods.
The relief drive focused on areas where waterlogging has persisted for several days, leaving many households displaced and dependent on external assistance.
Residents welcomed the initiative, with local volunteers assisting in the distribution of relief materials to ensure that aid reached the worst-affected families.
Expressing gratitude to the visiting delegation, Akhil Gogoi said the people of Sivasagar deeply appreciated the BTC Chief and his team's decision to travel from Kokrajhar to stand by the flood victims during the crisis.
"We are grateful to Hagrama Mohilary and the entire team. They have brought bedsheets, mosquito nets, essential hygiene products and other relief items for the flood victims. As Sivasagar town remains completely submerged, this assistance will greatly benefit the affected people," Gogoi said.
He noted that the BTC team's decision to visit the affected areas in person, rather than merely dispatching relief materials, reflected a strong sense of solidarity and compassion towards those battling the flood situation.
The visit comes as large parts of Upper Assam, including Sivasagar district, continue to grapple with extensive flooding triggered by heavy rainfall.
Relief and rehabilitation efforts are underway across several affected districts, with government agencies, voluntary organisations and public representatives stepping up assistance for displaced families.
