Gandhinagar, Aug 4 (SocialNews.XYZ) Gujarat Director General of Police (DGP) Gyanendra Singh Malik conducted a surprise inspection of the Cyber Centre of Excellence in Gandhinagar on Tuesday, reviewing cybercrime investigations, forensic capabilities and citizen support systems, with a particular focus on strengthening the state's response to online fraud and expanding access to the national cyber helpline.
During the visit, Malik assessed the Centre's overall functioning, including cyber crime investigation procedures, technical analysis and the work carried out by its various specialised branches.
He reviewed how complaints of cyber fraud are received, the speed of the initial response and the technical assistance provided to victims.
The DGP also examined the scientific handling of digital evidence, including mobile phone and computer forensics, data recovery procedures and measures adopted to ensure transparency during investigations.
Holding detailed discussions with senior officers, Malik emphasised the use of advanced technology and intelligence analysis in solving increasingly complex cyber crimes.
He also discussed plans to further expand the Cyber Helpline Number, 1930, to improve accessibility for citizens and ensure faster assistance for victims of online financial fraud and other cyber offences.
The visit also included a review of initiatives aimed at tackling online cyber bullying, social media-related offences and crimes affecting women and children.
Officers briefed the DGP on the special campaigns being undertaken in these areas and the measures adopted to enhance digital safety.
Addressing officials during the review, Malik said: "Cyber security is the highest priority of the police department."
Referring to the role of the Cyber Centre of Excellence, he noted that such modern facilities play an important part in providing citizens with a secure digital environment.
The DGP also issued several directions to further strengthen the department's cyber policing capabilities.
These included improving the quality of cyber investigations so that stronger scientific evidence can be presented before courts, and organising regular training programmes to equip police personnel with modern cyber tools and technology-driven investigative techniques.
The inspection forms part of the Gujarat Police's continuing efforts to enhance cyber crime detection, improve digital forensic capabilities and strengthen support mechanisms for victims as cyber-enabled offences continue to evolve in complexity.
