
Guwahati, Aug 4 (SocialNews.XYZ) Two Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel were killed and another sustained injuries after an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) allegedly opened fire inside a CRPF camp in Assam's Nagaon district on Tuesday before allegedly dying by suicide, officials said.
The incident occurred at the 34 Battalion CRPF camp at Katimari, triggering panic within the high-security premises.
The motive behind the shooting is yet to be established, and an investigation has been initiated.
According to preliminary information, the accused, identified as ASI/GD Ballani Premabaram, a native of Andhra Pradesh, was deployed on main gate duty when he was reportedly found without his assigned service weapon.
Officials said he subsequently entered the camp's guard room, took an INSAS rifle and moved towards the rear side of the Quarter Guard. Police said Premabaram allegedly first fired at Head Constable (HV/GD) Vishnu Prasad Baghel, who sustained fatal injuries and died at the spot. He then allegedly shot SI/GD Ramnawal Singh Yadav, who had reportedly arrived at the camp for official document verification. Yadav also succumbed to his injuries.
The accused allegedly went on to fire at ASI/Mane Govind Sripul of the 171 Battalion, leaving him seriously injured. The injured officer was immediately shifted to Dew Care Hospital, where he is undergoing treatment.
Following the shooting, Premabaram allegedly entered the barracks of the 171 Battalion and shot himself with the same weapon. He died on the spot, officials said.
The deceased have been identified as SI/GD Ramnawal Singh Yadav, Head Constable Vishnu Prasad Baghel and ASI/GD Ballani Premabaram, the alleged shooter.
Senior CRPF officers and local police personnel reached the camp soon after the incident.
Security officials have launched a detailed inquiry to establish the sequence of events, examine the circumstances surrounding the firing and ascertain the motive behind the incident.
The investigation is ongoing, and more details are awaited.
