Kolkata, Aug 3 (SocialNews.XYZ) Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose's grand-nephew, Chandra Kumar Bose, on Monday quit the Trinamool Congress, within four months of joining the party.
In a letter to Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee, Bose said he decided to leave the party due to personal reasons.
"I hereby tender my resignation from the primary membership of the All India Trinamool Congress with immediate effect, due to personal reasons. I wish you and the AITC all the very best in all its future endeavours," said Bose in his resignation letter.
Ahead of the state Assembly polls, Bose was officially inducted into the party at Trinamool Bhavan on April 12. He had joined the Mamata Banerjee-led party, leaving the BJP. He had described his decision to join the BJP as a "mistake".
Earlier, after being called for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) hearing, Chandra Bose became disillusioned with the BJP at the Centre. He had raised the question and wondered why there was any doubt about his citizenship even after being the grand-nephew of freedom fighter Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose.
However, after the change of government in the state, there has been a split in the Trinamool Congress, with the majority of the faction moving to the rebel camp of MLAs led by Leader of the Opposition in the state Assembly Ritabrata Banerjee.
Former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee now leads the original but minority faction of the Trinamool Congress.
Instead of aligning with either of the factions, Chandra Kumar Bose decided to quit the party. In 2016, Chandra Bose had joined the BJP in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah during a rally in Howrah.
In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Chandra Bose contested from the Kolkata Dakshin constituency as a candidate for the BJP. However, he lost the election to Trinamool Congress candidate Mala Roy. After the Lok Sabha polls, he distanced himself from the BJP.
After the 2021 state Assembly polls, Chandra Bose stayed away from active politics and was not seen taking part in any party activities.
