New Delhi, Aug 1 (SocialNews.XYZ) Delhi Police's East District on Saturday has busted a fraud involving a fake packers and movers service and arrested a man accused of cheating a customer by withholding household goods after demanding additional money.
The police also recovered the complainant’s entire household consignment from Gurugram, Haryana, and worked out another criminal case linked to the accused.
According to police, the accused had lured customers through a fraudulent packers and movers operation. After collecting household goods for transportation, he demanded extra payment and failed to deliver the consignment. Following sustained technical surveillance and an extensive investigation, the accused was traced and apprehended.
The case came to light after an eFIR No. 80056467/2026 under Sections 305 and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) was registered at Police Station Laxmi Nagar on July 12, 2026, based on a complaint filed by Kumar Vikash Anand, a resident of Gharhwali Mohalla in Laxmi Nagar.
The complainant informed police that he had hired the services of Space Logistics Packers & Movers to transport his household belongings from Delhi to Bihar. Representatives of the company collected a portion of the goods on July 1 and the remaining items on July 8. However, instead of transporting and delivering the consignment, the accused allegedly demanded an additional payment of Rs 20,000.
Believing the demand to be genuine, the complainant initially paid Rs 500 and later transferred Rs 19,500 to the accused. Despite receiving the full amount, the accused neither delivered the household goods nor refunded the money, prompting the victim to approach the police.
The investigation was assigned to Head Constable Manoj Khari. A dedicated team comprising HC Manoj Khari and HC Praveen Teotia was formed under the supervision of the Station House Officer (SHO) of PS Laxmi Nagar and the guidance of the ACP, Preet Vihar.
During the probe, police conducted multiple raids and searches to trace the accused and locate the fraudulent firm's operations. The mobile number used in the commission of the offence was placed under technical surveillance, while electronic and digital evidence was thoroughly examined.
Based on intelligence inputs and technical analysis, the accused, identified as Ajay Kumar Singh, 26, a resident of Vishnu Garden in Gurugram, Haryana, was traced and arrested. During interrogation, he disclosed the location where the complainant’s belongings had been concealed.
Acting on the information, police recovered the entire household consignment from Gurugram. The recovered articles included 15 carton boxes containing a refrigerator, washing machine, LCD television, kitchen utensils, household goods and other miscellaneous items. The property was seized in accordance with legal procedures.
Further investigation revealed that the accused was also wanted in another criminal case registered as FIR No. 162/2026 under Section 316(2) BNS at Police Station Shakarpur, Delhi.
Police said the successful operation was the result of prompt action, effective technical surveillance and coordinated efforts by the investigation team. Further investigation into the matter is underway.
