Kolkata, July 28 (SocialNews.XYZ) The police have recovered a huge amount of banned drug cocaine from Karaya area in Kolkata and arrested three drug traffickers, said an official on Tuesday. According to the police, a large amount of foreign drugs are being smuggled for rave parties in different parts of the city. Cocaine is in high demand among them.
The police said that they received information through sources that a den of foreign drug traffickers has been set up on Ahiripukur Road in Karaya area.
Police officers from Kadeya police station raided that den on Monday and recovered 104 grams of cocaine worth more than Rs 10 lakh.
Three drug traffickers named Azaharuddin Khan, Mohammad Ashfaq and Latafat Khan were caught red-handed by the police.
The police have learned that these agents of the gang are also behind this drug trafficking. They are the ones who communicate with the foreign drug traffickers on the dark web. The drug reached Kolkata through hands of couriers or sometimes by carriers.
The police said that the arrested persons were mainly responsible for smuggling this foreign drug in small packets to rave parties. The smugglers buy it directly from drug addicts or through agents. A lot of money is spent for just a few grams of white powder cocaine.
The arrested persons are being interrogated and the search is on for those agents or drug addicts. The police are trying to find out how did this drug reach Kolkata and why was it not detected in the airport scanner.
It may be noted that earlier this month two Thai female nationals were arrested in Kolkata with banned narcotics. They had come to the city disguised as tourists but in reality they were here to smuggle the drugs.
The Special Task Force (STF) of Kolkata Police arrested the two women hailing from Bangkok from Bhowanipore area of south Kolkata for being in possession of the banned drug ecstasy. They flew to Kolkata from Bangkok on tourist visas to smuggle these drugs.
Meanwhile, on Monday, a meeting was held between 20 investigative agencies including Kolkata Police on the issue of combating drug trafficking.
On this day, the Police Commissioner and other police officers and officials were present at the meeting in Lalbazar (Kolkata Police headquarters) on behalf of Kolkata Police.
This meeting on drug trafficking is held every month. In addition to the Narcotics Control Bureau, officers of Customs Department, Excise Department, DRI, officials from the Health Department and several other investigative agencies were also present.
The number of drugs seized by each investigative agency in the last one month and the number of arrests were discussed. Information was also exchanged on drug trafficking and traffickers.
