Gujarat tests 6.91 lakh water samples as monsoon disease prevention measures

Gandhinagar, July 28 (SocialNews.XYZ) Gujarat has intensified measures to prevent water-borne and vector-borne diseases during the monsoon, with more than 6.91 lakh drinking water samples tested for chlorination and over 84.38 lakh chlorine tablets distributed across the state since June 15.

The Health Department has also repaired leaks in more than 2,500 drinking water pipelines as part of efforts to maintain water quality and reduce the risk of disease outbreaks during the rainy season.

During the period, more than 17,000 medical and para-medical teams have been engaged across different districts, while 4,655 medical camps have been organised where more than 1.20 lakh patients received health check-ups and necessary treatment.

Health Department officials said that the measures are being carried out considering the possibility of an increase in water-borne and vector-borne diseases during the monsoon.

The department has been providing health services under the supervision of Minister of State for Health, Praful Pansheriya. In Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation limits, 477 medical and para-medical teams examined 12,972 patients.

The Health Department has appealed to citizens to consume boiled or chlorinated safe drinking water during the monsoon to prevent infections.

People have also been advised to immediately approach the nearest Primary Health Centre (PHC) or government medical camp in case of any health-related issues or symptoms.
