Gandhinagar, July 26 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Gujarat government has substantially increased financial assistance for levelling free residential plots allotted to rural homeless families, raising support fivefold on a per-plot basis and fourfold per hectare to make land ready for house construction and accelerate rural housing development.
Under the revised assistance, support for levelling each free residential plot has been increased from Rs 1,000 to Rs 5,000.
Assistance for levelling uneven and undulating land identified for free residential plots in village residential sites has also been raised from Rs 50,000 per hectare to Rs 2 lakh per hectare.
According to the state government, the enhanced assistance is intended to reduce the cost of preparing land for construction, particularly in villages where plots identified for allotment are uneven and require development before houses can be built.
The Panchayat, Rural Housing and Rural Development Department issued a resolution on July 17, approving the revised assistance under the guidance of Minister Rushikesh Patel and Minister of State, Sanjaysinh Mahida.
"The decision forms part of its efforts to advance the Centre's 'Housing for All' initiative. The increased assistance would provide greater financial support to rural homeless families and help speed up the construction of permanent homes," officials said.
For several years, the state government has been implementing a scheme under which rural homeless families are allotted free residential plots measuring 100 square yards.
With the revised assistance, beneficiaries will receive support not only for the allotment of land but also for preparing the plots for construction.
The government said the increased financial assistance would particularly benefit beneficiaries in villages where the identified land is uneven or undulating, making construction difficult without prior levelling.
"The measure is expected to facilitate planned development of village residential sites while improving access to housing for eligible rural families," officials added.
