Guwahati, July 26 (SocialNews.XYZ) Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday said the flood situation in Upper Assam was gradually improving as water was receding in several affected areas, while assuring that the state government was continuing rescue and relief operations on a war footing.
Speaking to reporters after attending a public gathering at Azara, where he joined people in listening to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's monthly radio programme 'Mann Ki Baat', the Chief Minister said the administration is closely monitoring the flood situation, particularly in the Nazira area of Sivasagar district, which has been among the worst-hit regions.
CM Sarma said teams engaged in rescue and relief operations were ensuring that affected residents receive drinking water, food, medicines and other essential supplies without interruption.
"The floodwaters are gradually receding, and the overall situation is improving. However, relief operations will continue until normalcy is fully restored," the Chief Minister said.
He added that the state government remained committed to extending all possible assistance to flood-affected families and was working in coordination with district administrations and disaster response agencies to ensure timely relief reaches every affected village.
The Chief Minister also announced that he would personally visit the flood-hit areas within the next one or two days to assess the ground situation and review the progress of rescue and rehabilitation measures.
"I will visit the affected areas in the next one or two days to take stock of the situation and oversee the ongoing relief efforts," CM Sarma said.
The state government has intensified relief operations in the flood-affected districts, with officials continuing to monitor embankments, distribute relief materials and provide emergency support to people displaced by the rising waters.
The Chief Minister's assurance comes as the government steps up efforts to restore normal life in flood-hit areas, while maintaining close surveillance over river levels and weather conditions to respond swiftly to any further developments.
Authorities have urged residents in vulnerable areas to remain alert and cooperate with local officials as relief and rehabilitation measures continue across the affected districts.
