Kolkata, July 24 (SocialNews.XYZ) West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari will give a statement on the floor of the Assembly on Saturday regarding the state government’s ongoing investigations into allegations surrounding the Sebashray health camp run by Trinamool Congress general secretary and Lok Sabha member Abhishek Banerjee in his Diamond Harbour constituency in South 24 Parganas district during the previous Mamata Banerjee‑led Trinamool regime.
On Friday, during the fifth day of the extended budget session, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislator from Falta Assembly Constituency, Debangshu Panda, raised charges against the Sebashray health camp.
He alleged that some patients had suffered serious medical consequences following wrong treatment.
“Some playgrounds are still occupied by camps set up for Sebashray. Various misdeeds were done in the name of treatment. Some patients had to lose their hands, while some lost their legs. A playground for the Falta Sebashray camp remained occupied for a long time. If the administration now makes arrangements to open it, it will cost about Rs 24 lakh to the state exchequer. The purpose of keeping that pandal was to take BJP workers there and torture them had the results of the recently concluded West Bengal Assembly polls been otherwise. I am bringing this matter to the attention of the Assembly and also seeking a statement from the Chief Minister,” Panda said.
Following this, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Shankar Ghosh informed the House that the Chief Minister will give a statement on the matter on Saturday, the last day of the extended budget session.
The Treasury Bench will also place the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India’s report on the income and expenditures from the state exchequer before the Assembly on the same day.
The main allegation against Sebashray is that it was run without government approval. Other charges include illegal use of medical equipment, medicines and machinery, with claims that even radioactive substances were used. Health workers and intern doctors have also complained that they were taken to the camps on false promises of certificates, which were never issued, and were forced to continue working there.
