Giridih (Jharkhand), July 23 (SocialNews.XYZ) Jharkhand’s Giridih police claimed to have solved the murder of a young man who had been missing for nearly a month. Police arrested one accused in connection with the case, officials said on Thursday.
Acting on the accused's lead, police recovered the victim's skeletal remains, along with a scarf allegedly used in the crime, clothing, slippers, a mobile phone, and a knife from the crime scene.
According to police, Hriday Narayan Singh (72), a resident of Siyarangi village under the Pirtand police station limits, lodged a missing person complaint on July 1 regarding his son, Shankar Kumar Singh, also known as Bindu Singh.
He told police that his son had left home on June 20, saying he was going to Giridih but never returned. Family members had suspected that a woman identified as Sonia Kumari, a resident of Dhanbad, and some others might have been involved in his abduction.
Based on the complaint, police registered a case and launched an investigation.
Given the seriousness of the matter, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was constituted under Abid Khan, SDPO of Dumri, on the instructions of the Superintendent of Police.
The team pursued the case using technical evidence, mobile phone location data, and human intelligence inputs. During the probe, police brought Sonia Kumari from Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh for questioning.
They also detained Chandan Kumar Bhokta (32), a resident of Sirsa village in Deoghar district, and interrogated him.
During questioning, Chandan Kumar Bhokta allegedly confessed to the murder. He told investigators that Shankar Kumar Singh wanted to marry the woman, who was already married and had three children. The accused and members of the woman's in-laws' family were opposed to the proposed marriage.
To put an end to the dispute, he allegedly lured Shankar by promising to arrange a meeting with the woman and took him on a motorcycle to Basaha forest in Dhanbad district's Tundi area.
Police said that at the secluded location, the accused repeatedly struck Shankar on the head with a stone and then strangled him with a scarf. After the murder, he allegedly concealed the body in the forest in an attempt to prevent the crime from coming to light.
Based on the accused's disclosure, police recovered the victim's skeletal remains, an orange-coloured scarf, clothes, slippers, the accused's mobile phone, and a knife from the spot.
Police said the case was cracked using scientific and technical evidence.
