Gandhinagar, July 23 (SocialNews.XYZ) Gujarat's Health Department has intensified its preparedness to prevent outbreaks of water-borne and seasonal diseases in South Gujarat as heavy rainfall continues and a red alert remains in force for Navsari, Valsad, Surat and adjoining districts.
At a high-level review meeting in Gandhinagar on Thursday, State Health Minister Praful Pansheriya assessed the department's preparedness and directed officials to strengthen micro-planning, maintain reserve medical teams and ensure adequate stocks of medicines and essential supplies to deal with the post-flood health situation.
Addressing the meeting, Pansheriya said: "Sufficient stocks of chlorine tablets, essential medicines and disinfectants had already been positioned in all districts to help prevent disease outbreaks once floodwaters recede."
He instructed officials to ensure that people staying in relief camps receive regular medical check-ups and uninterrupted healthcare services.
The minister also reviewed arrangements for vulnerable groups, particularly pregnant women living in remote villages that could become inaccessible because of heavy rainfall.
He sought details of the planning and identification process undertaken to shift them safely to the nearest Community Health Centres before access becomes difficult.
Pansheriya directed officials to keep reserve teams of doctors and medical personnel ready in districts that have received comparatively less rainfall so they can be deployed immediately to affected areas if required.
He also asked the department to draw on lessons from previous flood situations to prevent disease outbreaks after the rains subside.
Referring to the state's preparedness, the minister said: "Under the guidance of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, all policy and administrative planning has been completed."
He added that he was travelling by road to Surat and Navsari to assess the situation on the ground and ensure that immediate support is provided wherever necessary.
"The state government and the health department are fully committed to protecting the health of citizens," Pansheriya said.
The review meeting was attended by Urban Health Commissioner Dr Sandhya Bhullar, Rural Health Commissioner Dr Ratankanwar Charan Gadhvi, Additional Director (Public Health) Dr Nilam Patel, Additional Director (Medical Education) Dr Jayesh Sachde, Additional Director (Medical Services) Dr Brahmbhatt and other senior Health Department officials.
