Director Subba Reddy Voluntarily Gives His Dream Title ‘Varanasi’ to SS Rajamouli–Mahesh Babu Film

Director Subba Reddy has voluntarily given the title "Varanasi", which was registered under his name, to the upcoming film directed by SS Rajamouli and starring Mahesh Babu, without accepting any payment.

Speaking at an interaction along with Producers Council Secretary Prasanna Kumar and former Directors' Association President Veera Shankar, Subba Reddy said he had registered the title "Varanasi" in 2023 under his banner and had already begun working on a story with that title. However, when he learned that the same title was needed for Rajamouli's prestigious film, he decided to give it away in the interest of Telugu cinema.

He said it was an honor to contribute in a small way to such a landmark project featuring his favorite actor Mahesh Babu, director SS Rajamouli, and producer KL Narayana. Subba Reddy clarified that he never considered the title a business opportunity and did not even think of accepting a single rupee in return. "A title is an emotion for me. It's not meant to be sold. I was happy to give it for a good film," he said.

Former Directors' Association President Veera Shankar said that Subba Reddy was emotionally attached to the title at first, which is why they did not approach him immediately. Later, when they explained that the title was needed for a film by Rajamouli and KL Narayana and that it would send a positive message across the industry, Subba Reddy readily agreed.

Veera Shankar added that this gesture sets a good example for the film industry, showing that titles should be shared with mutual respect rather than treated as commercial assets. He praised Subba Reddy's decision as one that promotes a healthy and cooperative atmosphere in Telugu cinema.

On the occasion, they also extended their best wishes to SS Rajamouli, producer KL Narayana, music director MM Keeravani, and lyricist Chandrabose, expressing hope that "Varanasi" will take the glory of Telugu cinema to even greater heights across the world.
