Kolkata, July 22 (SocialNews.XYZ) The body of a policeman was recovered from the toilet of his house under mysterious circumstances in north Bengal’s Siliguri, police said on Wednesday.
The deceased has been identified as Krishnamohan Jha. He was working in Islampur court in North Dinajpur district.
During the 2023 Panchayat elections, he was in the news for begging Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar for his life after facing a mob attack and violence in Gangarampur in South Dinajpur district.
The sudden death of the policeman has created a sensation in the New Colony area of Ward No. 47 of Siliguri in North Bengal. The family alleged that this is not a natural death, claiming he was murdered in a planned manner.
According to family sources, Krishnamohan Jha left his house on Tuesday night on his scooter. By dawn, his elder son went to the toilet of the house and found his father lying unconscious on the floor. When the son screamed, his wife Putul Jha and local neighbours rushed to the spot.
The incident was reported to Pradhan Nagar police station. The police arrived and took Krishnamohan to Siliguri District Hospital in an ambulance, where doctors declared him dead.
Since the incident, several inconsistencies have come to the fore. The scooter he had taken out at night is missing, and the house key in his pocket is also not found.
Wife Putul Jha claimed that her husband was killed somewhere else and secretly brought back and left in their toilet. The disappearance of the scooter and the key has raised serious suspicions about the incident.
It is to be noted that Krishnamohan Jha faced vote‑rigging and violence while he was in charge of booth number 176 in Joydevpur in Gangarampur during the 2023 Panchayat elections.
He was threatened by miscreants. When the then state president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Sukanta Majumdar, reached there, Jha cried and begged for his life, saying “Save me!” He alleged that miscreants raised their hands on him at the booth and threatened to kill him.
Krishnamohan Jha, a resident of Balurghat, lived with his wife, two sons and a daughter in Patikonoli of Siliguri in North Bengal.
The Pradhan Nagar police have started an investigation into his mysterious death. The body has been sent for autopsy to find out the exact cause of death.
Siliguri Police Commissioner Syed Waquar Reza said that the search for the scooter and the key is on. He added that CCTV footage of the area is being examined and once the autopsy report comes, it will be clear whether it was an accident or a criminal conspiracy.
