Guwahati, July 20 (SocialNews.XYZ) Preparations for the nationwide Census 2027 gathered pace in Assam on Monday with the launch of training programmes for Enumerators and Supervisors engaged in the House Listing Operation (HLO) and Housing Census in Kamrup district, officials said.
The district-wide training exercise, which commenced on Monday, will continue until August 8 and aims to equip field personnel with the technical knowledge and procedural skills required to conduct the House Listing Operation accurately and efficiently.
Officials said the programme will be implemented in phases across all 11 Revenue Circles of Kamrup district: Palashbari, Hajo, Boko, Chhaygaon, North Guwahati, Rangia, Kamalpur, Goroimari, Chamaria, Nagarbera and Koya.
The training is designed to familiarise Enumerators and Supervisors with census procedures, data collection methods, field protocols and operational guidelines to ensure uniformity and accuracy during the enumeration process.
Kamrup District Commissioner Deba Kumar Mishra inaugurated the training programme at Dakshin Kamrup College in Mirza under the Palashbari Revenue Circle. Addressing the participants, he stressed the importance of conducting the exercise with precision, transparency and a strong sense of responsibility.
Mishra said that accurate census data form the foundation for evidence-based governance and play a vital role in planning developmental programmes, framing public policies, and ensuring the equitable distribution of resources.
He urged Enumerators and Supervisors to strictly follow the prescribed Census guidelines while carrying out fieldwork and emphasised that even minor inaccuracies could affect planning and policy decisions at multiple levels of government.
Officials said the phased training programme is intended to ensure that every Enumerator and Supervisor is fully prepared before the commencement of the House Listing Operation, which constitutes the first stage of the Census exercise.
The House Listing Operation involves collecting detailed information on residential buildings, households and housing conditions, forming the basis for the subsequent Population Census.
The Census is regarded as one of the country’s largest administrative exercises, providing crucial demographic, socio-economic and housing data that supports policy formulation, development planning and welfare initiatives at the national, state and local levels.
