APEDA facilitates first export of frozen French fries from Uttarakhand to Iraq

New Delhi, July 20 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) Monday facilitated the first export of frozen French fries from Uttarakhand to Iraq, marking a significant step in promoting value-added agricultural exports from the hill state and strengthening India's processed food export portfolio.

The inaugural shipment comprised 24 metric tonnes (MT) of frozen French fries exported by Virun Global Trade Private Limited from Kashipur in Udham Singh Nagar district to Iraq, according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.

The export is expected to open new international market opportunities for processors in Uttarakhand while boosting the state's participation in India's growing processed food exports.

The exporter expressed confidence that the quality of the consignment would help secure repeat orders and foster long-term business relationships in overseas markets, creating sustained export opportunities for both the company and the region.

APEDA has been supporting the exporter through participation in major international trade exhibitions such as SIAL, Gulfood, IndusFood and World Food India, helping expand market outreach and connect with global buyers.

India has been steadily strengthening its position as a supplier of processed agricultural products in global markets.

During 2025-26, the country's exports of processed vegetables stood at 726,874.70 metric tonnes, valued at $932.25 million.

Value-added potato products accounted for exports of 277,108.51 metric tonnes worth $289.40 million during the fiscal, while processed fruits and vegetables together contributed nearly 10 per cent of APEDA's scheduled exports.

APEDA Chairman Abhishek Dev said logistics costs continue to affect the competitiveness of exports from landlocked states such as Uttarakhand.

“APEDA is working closely with the Government of Uttarakhand on the formulation and implementation of the State Agri Export Policy, including provisions for transport assistance to improve export competitiveness and facilitate greater market access for exporters,” he mentioned.
