Kolkata, July 18 (SocialNews.XYZ) Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)’s former state president in West Bengal and former Governor of Meghalaya, Tathagata Roy, on Saturday issued a note of caution that the Communists should not regain their lost political significance in the state by taking advantage of the implosion in the Trinamool Congress following its landslide defeat in the recently concluded assembly elections.
Roy said in a social media statement, “The BJP must keep a vigilant eye to ensure that the CPI(M) does not sneak into the political vacuum created by the implosion of the Trinamool Congress today. The simple truth that ‘Communists mean fraud’ still fails to sink into the minds of many of us, that is, Bengali Hindus.”
According to him, Hindu Communists are always too eager to woo Muslim voters. In support of his argument, he cited an example of a Hindu CPI(M) leader from West Bengal consuming beef, while noting that a heavyweight Muslim CPI(M) leader was never seen consuming pork.
Roy also referred to the last Communist Chief Minister of West Bengal, Late Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee. He recalled that in 2002, Bhattacharjee had boldly stated that anti‑national propaganda was being carried out in several madrasas in the state's border areas.
“His statements were published in all newspapers including the CPI(M)’s party organ, Ganashakti. The next day, under pressure from the CPI(M) leadership, Bhattacharjee had to deny the statement,” Roy said.
He claimed that recent raids at two madrasas in North 24 Parganas district by the Anti‑Terrorist Squad (ATS) of the Uttar Pradesh Police proved how true Bhattacharjee’s statement was at the time.
In the recently concluded West Bengal assembly election, CPI(M) secured just one seat. However, since then, the party’s leadership has launched issue‑based movements, such as opposing the eviction of hawkers under the current Suvendu Adhikari‑led West Bengal government.
