Kolkata, July 18 (SocialNews.XYZ) The police on Saturday detained one person in connection with the explosion in a house in the Rajarhat area in the northern outskirts of Kolkata. The police said the prime suspect, Md Shamim alias Salim, a resident of the Kamarhati area of North 24 Parganas district, was on the run.
According to the police, an explosion took place in a house in the Dakshin Narayanpur area of Rajarhat last night. One person was injured in the explosion. It is learnt that two people rented a room in the house a few days ago. Last night, one of them brought a white bag to the room. The explosion occurred a few minutes after leaving the bag and coming out. The video of the moment of the explosion was captured on CCTV cameras.
On Saturday, the police detained one person in connection with this incident and began questioning him. Officers from the West Bengal Fire Services Department, the Special Task Force of the State Police, and the bomb squad reached the spot on Saturday to sanitise the affected building. Sources said a team of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) is likely to visit the site for inquiry.
According to the police, the explosion occurred after a bomb exploded. After the explosion, a lot of bomb strings were seen lying at the scene. It is being investigated whether the bomb was stored in the house beforehand. Other tenants of the house claimed that the bomb could have been brought in a white bag. They are terrified by the incident.
Preliminary investigation revealed that about two to three days ago, two people rented the house through a broker. They told the owner that they would only come at night and stay outside during the day for work. There are other tenants in the house as well. Yesterday, they saw a man enter the house carrying a white bag. He left the bag and came out after a while. About 10 minutes later, the house was shaken by an explosion.
The intensity of the explosion broke the walls and doors of the house. Two rooms were extensively damaged. There was a person in the room next to the room where the explosion took place. He was seriously injured and has been admitted to the hospital.
