Bengal: 6 arrested for slaughtering cows without license

Kolkata, July 18 (SocialNews.XYZ) Police on Saturday arrested six people on charges of slaughtering cows without a licence and selling beef in public. The incident took place in the Raigachi area of Rajarhat, on the northern outskirts of Kolkata.

The accused were produced before the Barasat Sub‑Division Court on Saturday, where police sought their custody.

According to officers at Rajarhat Police Station, there were allegations of open-air beef sales in several areas of Rajarhat. After receiving complaints, police conducted a raid in the area and arrested six people on charges of illegally slaughtering cows and selling beef without a licence. The arrested were brought to Rajarhat Police Station.

“Six people have been arrested. A case has been registered against them for illegally slaughtering cows and selling beef. Investigation into the incident is underway,” said a senior officer of the Bidhannagar Police Commissionerate.

Rajarhat New Town BJP MLA Piyush Kanodia said Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari had implemented the rule of law in the state from the first day after taking charge.

He said slaughtering of cows without a licence and selling beef has been banned, and those attempting to do so secretly will not get relief.

Kanodia urged people to stay calm and let police do their job, adding that the BJP government will not allow any illegal activities anywhere in the state.

After the change of government in the state, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari said the rule of law has been established.

Following the formation of the BJP government, a zero‑tolerance policy has been adopted against illegal activities. A campaign is also underway against selling meat in public without a licence. MLA Piyush Kanodia reiterated that no illegal activity will be tolerated in this BJP‑ruled state.
