Bihar: Viral video shows father carrying son across flooded river

Patna, July 16 (SocialNews.XYZ) A viral video circulating on social media has once again drawn attention to the hardships faced by residents of Bihar's flood-prone regions.

The video purportedly shows a father carrying his young son on his shoulders while crossing a fast-flowing river, reportedly to ensure the child reaches school. However, the authenticity of the video and the accompanying claim have not been independently verified.

The situation in northern Bihar has worsened after continuous rainfall in Nepal's Terai and catchment areas caused a sharp rise in the water levels of the Gandak, Masan, and other hill-fed rivers.

Around 2.21 lakh cusecs of water were released from the Valmikinagar Gandak Barrage at approximately 10 pm on July 14, leading to flooding in several low-lying areas.

The Water Resources Department and the district administration are closely monitoring the situation. Floodwaters have entered several villages, particularly in the Piprasi area of the Bagaha subdivision and the Sisai and Chiurahi panchayats of Madhubani block, where reports indicate that water has entered numerous homes.

The administration has appealed to residents to remain vigilant and avoid venturing near swollen rivers and embankments.

Madhubani Block Circle Officer Nandlal Ram said relief measures have been initiated in the affected areas. He said following reports of flooding, assistance has been dispatched to the affected regions, adding that necessary steps are being taken to provide relief to the affected families.

According to residents, every monsoon season, dozens of villages in the Don region of Ramnagar block are surrounded by nearly 22 rivers.

In the absence of adequate roads, bridges, and other basic infrastructure, many villages are cut off from administrative headquarters for days. Residents say they are often compelled to cross swollen rivers to access schools, healthcare facilities, markets, and other essential services.

The widely shared video has reignited concerns over infrastructure and connectivity in Bihar's flood-affected regions.

Authorities continue to monitor the flood situation as river levels remain elevated, and residents in vulnerable areas have been advised to stay alert and follow official safety advisories.
